CIOS 276

On Monday November 3rd, I went through more web sites trying to find some pictures of the items.  I may have to actually go into the Warehouse with an actual camera and take come pictures of the actual items.  I relaxed the rest of the week doing stuff around the house and then watched football the whole weekend.  It is time to finish this up.

On Monday October 27th I finished up the actual Inventory.  Now there are a couple of items that I just need to go back and double-check because those came back as errors when I imported the spreadsheet into the Access Database.

Then I spent Tuesday evening October 28th I worked at trying to get pictures of the items so that I could get them on the database.  Every single item I tried to look up had no image available.  I spent about 3 to 3 1/2 hours trying to find pictures of the Fiber Inventory items.

I will stay after work for a little bit tomorrow, November 3rd, to see if I can clear up the 5 error items for the database.

Monday Oct 20th and Tuesday Oct 21st I did the Fiber Inventory for about 2 hours after work each night.  On Wednesday Oct 22nd, I went home after work to shovel the driveway before the City came through with the Scrapers.  There was about 4 inches of snow on my driveway.  On Thursday Oct 23rd I stayed for about 1 1/2 hours and did the Fiber Inventory.  Friday is Bowling Night so I don’t stay after work that night.

I am in the pit of the warehouse now and have reached the items that are basically stacked up on pallets and shrink-wrapped.  These pallets are sitting on the floor in the very back of the warehouse where the big machines usually park in the garage.  These pallets are taking up one of the 2 doors of that garage.

These pallets have been there for a long, long, long time and they have that mildew smell to them and the warehouse dust also.  So on Thursday after I got done I definitely had to take a shower when I got home.  I hadn’t felt that way since I worked with old member files when I was doing Capital Credits for GVEA.  The old member files were stored out in the old PCB Building.  I had to take a shower everytime I came home when I spent any length of time out in that building.

There is a light at the end of this tunnel though, as this is the last of my Inventory and then just a little tweeking to the Database and I can probably call it good.

It was another fun-filled week of doing Inventory after working all day.  On Monday the 13th through Thursday the 16th, I worked for 2 hours each night after work doing the Inventory.  It is coming along very nicely.

On Saturday the 18th, I thought of something I could add to the description for the Fiber Optic Cable itself.  On the Fiber Optic Cable it has stamped on the outer sheath, the Month and Year that the Cable was created.  So I figured that when I got started again on Monday the 20th, I would go through all the spools and get that information so I could input it into the database.

On Monday (Oct 6th) and Tuesday (Oct 7th) I worked for 2 hours after work both days to work on the Fiber Inventory.  On Wednesday (Oct 8th) I was so hungry I just went home after work to eat dinner and spend some time with my wife.  On Thursday (Oct 9th) I worked for 1 1/2 hours after work to do the Fiber Inventory.

On Saturday (Oct 11th) I worked on home projects so I didn’t come in to do the Fiber Inventory.  I think it is still cruising.  I will make an update this Saturday for this week, but I have reached the deep recesses of the warehouse.

On Sunday Sep 28th, I stayed home working on Projects at home instead of going into work and working on the Independent Project.  On Monday the 29th, I actually found a backup copy of my Access Database.  I was very relieved.

I asked Pavat Komkai to help me with a few bugs in the Access Database, including after I imported the Excel Spreadsheet I wasn’t able to see the data in my Access Database.  It had Pav stumped.  We kind of did a work around and after that, the database worked like it was supposed to, so Pav still doesn’t know why it didn’t work in the first place.  I have since used the Access Database to input my Inventory.

On Tuesday Sep 30th and Wednesday Oct 1st, I stayed for 2 hours after work to work on the Inventory.  My inventory has really been cruising and I am actually a lot further than I had anticipated at this point.  I feel good, but don’t want to get over confident that I will be done soon.

Well, I have managed to create frustration for myself concerning the Access Database I created for my Independent Project.  I have messed it up bad enough that I had to totally delete it and I will have to recreate the Database itself.

I was in the process of trying to import the excel spreadsheet into the access database and got some errors.  When I tried to fix the errors, it messed up the table so bad that it deleted portions of the table.  I ended up having to delete the whole database.

I will spend the rest of this week trying to recreate the Access Database.

It was another great week for the Fiber Inventory.  Sunday, September 21st I spent about 5 hours in the Warehouse doing the Inventory.  Then on Tuesday, and Wednesday (September 23rd & September 24th) I spent about 2 hours each day doing the inventory.

I was too exhausted on Thursday to stay after work so I went home to rest up.  Keith came by for a visit to check on my project and to discuss the project with me.  The visit went well.

I made pretty good progress this second week for my Independent Project.  On Sunday (Sep 14th) I went in to work for 4 1/2 hours.  Then on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (Sep 16th, 17th, & 18th) I stayed after work for 2 hours each day to work on the Fiber Inventory.

Today (Sep 20th) I stayed home to catch up on projects around the house and the normal work around the house that I have been putting off during the week.

I decided that instead of using just a plain spreadsheet for the database on this Inventory Project, I would actually build a Microsoft Access Database to input and hold the information.  So on Wednesday (the 10th of October) I built an Access Database for the Fiber Inventory Project.  The Access Dagabase will serve the purpose of the Project and later on we can even work with the Programmers to connect the Access Database to one of the Oracle Applications so that the Database will actually be useful and be continuely used for many years.

I went over to the warehouse today to put in some hours of taking actual inventory.  I finished taking inventory on a couple of the racks.  I was there for about 4 1/2 hours today taking inventory.  I will try and stay after work during the week to get as much of this project done as soon as I can.
